Huntington Beach Police and Community Foundation scholarship  opportunity

2024 Scholarship Program ‐ $4,000 per recipient. Use your scholarship for a trade school or accredited colleges


The HBPCF is offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Huntington Beach. Students

graduating from a high school in Huntington Beach in 2024, who plan to attend an accredited college or

trade school, are eligible. Students who are residents of Huntington Beach but attend high school in

another city are also eligible. Four scholarships of $4,000 each to be paid $1,000 per year/recipient up to

4 years. This Scholarship is renewable provided students maintain eligibility by submitting a renewal

application and providing documentation they have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Scholarship funds are raised by the HBPCF through the generosity of individual and corporate donors.

Since 2016, the Foundation has granted scholarships totaling more than $78,000 to 56 students.

Jake Olson and Gil Coerper 2023 Scholarship Awards

Seven teens were each awarded a Gil Coerper (underwritten by The Kupferstein Family Foundation) or

Jake Olson Scholarship from the Huntington Beach Police & Community Foundation (HBPCF).


Presented by Dianne Thompson, President of the HBPCF, the renewable scholarships of $4,000 each

($1,000/year) are intended to offset the cost of tuition, books, and fees for the college or vocational

school of each recipients’ choice.


The scholarship programs are now in their 8th year and are named in memory of Gil Coerper and

honoring Jake Olson. This year’s recipients include Natalie Baines, Ryan Halliburton, Ella Jackson, Athena

Thu Luong, August Melschau, Gavin Pacheco, and Dylan Wersching. They were chosen from a talented

pool of 57 applicants.


The ceremony was held at the Huntington Beach City Council Chambers on June 8, 2023.
